Description

Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch 42mm Stainless Steel Hesalite Crystal - Ref# 311.30.42.23.001.005 - Powered by Calibre 1861

Pre-Owned; Purchased new from Omega Dealer Nov 2019 per included Omega Warranty Card.

Condition: (Collector-New) lightly and carefully worn with only slightest visible signs of careful and occasional wear. No scratches on hesalite crystal, no scratches on bezel. No significant dents, dings or deep scratches anywhere on watch case, bezel, caseback, bracelet or clasp. All pictures are of actual watch.

Only 2 known Speedmaster references were worn by the crew of Apollo 11. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin wore a 105.012, while Michael Collins wore the later 145.012.  This Speedmaster, Ref# 311.30.42.23.001.005 was released in tribute to those models and is the Speedmaster model most similar in design and aesthetics to either of those models.

Introduced in 2014 to replace the popular ref. 3570.50.00, the then-new Moonwatch was effectively identical to the watch worn by the Apollo 11 crew other than a few small details such as the luminescent material used in the hands and hour markers (Super-Luminova rather than tritium) and the exact movement, which is caliber 1861, a modern version of the original 861 movement (itself an update to the legendary 321 caliber) that uses 18 jewels rather than 17 and is rhodium plated. Outside of these technical updates, almost all other aesthetic details carried over, notably including the shatterproof hesalite crystal, black dial with white accents, combination of 30-minute, 12-hour, and small seconds sub-dials, closed caseback, and the 42mm case in stainless steel with matching bracelet.

Key Features:

  • 42mm stainless steel case w black aluminum tachymeter bezel

  • Hesalite crystal, staying true to the original Moonwatch design.

  • Black Dial with luminous hands/hour markers

  • Omega Caliber 1861 – a manual-winding chronograph movement, a direct descendant of the movement used in Moon-landing models

  • Water Resistant to 50m

  • Solid Caseback engraved with the famous "Flight-Qualified by NASA for All Manned Space Missions" and "The First Watch Worn on the Moon."
